We are currently updating our roster of consultants to support our growing portfolio of projects. We seek a Legal Specialist Consultant Expert to provide strategic guidance and technical support on legal research, analysis, drafting, and representation.

Objectives:
The Legal Specialist Consultant Expert will play a crucial role in ensuring that legal considerations are thoroughly integrated into Scofield Associates’ projects. Key objectives include:

• Providing technical expertise and guidance on legal research, analysis, interpretation, and application.
• Conducting legal due diligence, risk assessments, and compliance reviews to identify and mitigate legal risks.
• Drafting and reviewing legal documents, contracts, agreements, and policies to ensure their validity and enforceability.
• Providing legal representation and advocacy in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and other dispute resolution processes.
• Collaborating with project teams to ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
• Conducting legal training and capacity-building programs for staff, partners, and stakeholders.
• Representing Scofield Associates in relevant forums and networks on legal matters.

Scope of Work:
The Legal Specialist Consultant Expert will be engaged on a project-specific basis, with the scope of work tailored to the specific needs of each project. Typical tasks may include:

• Conducting comprehensive legal research on relevant laws, regulations, and jurisprudence.
• Analyzing legal issues and providing clear and concise legal opinions and advice.
• Drafting and reviewing legal documents, contracts, agreements, and policies.
• Providing legal representation and advocacy in negotiations, mediations, arbitration, and other dispute resolution processes.
• Conducting legal training and capacity-building programs on various legal topics.
• Preparing legal briefs, memos, and reports.
• Providing legal advice and support to project teams on legal compliance and risk management.

Qualifications and Experience:

• A Master’s degree in Law (LLM) with at least three years of relevant experience, OR
• A Bachelor’s degree in Law (LLB) with at least five years of relevant experience.
• A PhD in a relevant field is preferred.
• Must be an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya (or equivalent in other jurisdictions).
• Demonstrated expertise in legal research, analysis, drafting, and representation.
• Strong understanding of international and national laws, regulations, and legal frameworks.
• Knowledge and experience in Humanitarian Law, Mediation, and Arbitration is required.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
• Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other languages is an asset.

This should also be reflected in your motivation statement, your resume and your sample works. This will help us place you in specific projects in specific countries.
