We are currently updating our roster of consultants to strengthen our capacity in geospatial analysis and visualization. We seek a GIS Consultant Specialist to provide technical expertise and support on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) for various projects and initiatives.
Objectives:
The GIS Consultant Specialist will play a crucial role in ensuring that geospatial data and analysis are effectively integrated into Scofield Associates’ projects. Key objectives include:
- Providing technical expertise and guidance on GIS software, tools, methodologies, and best practices.
- Collecting, managing, and analyzing spatial data to inform decision-making and support project implementation.
- Creating maps, visualizations, and other geospatial products to communicate complex spatial information in an accessible and meaningful way.
- Developing and implementing GIS-based solutions to address project-specific challenges.
- Providing training and capacity building on GIS to staff and partners.
- Staying up-to-date with the latest advancements in GIS technology and applying them to relevant projects.
Scope of Work:
The GIS Consultant Specialist will be engaged on a project-specific basis, with the scope of work tailored to the specific needs of each project. Typical tasks may include:
- Data collection and management: Collecting spatial data from various sources, including field surveys, satellite imagery, and existing databases. Cleaning, processing, and organizing spatial data to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Spatial analysis: Conducting spatial analysis using GIS software to identify patterns, trends, and relationships in geospatial data. Developing spatial models to simulate and predict future scenarios.
- Cartography and visualization: Creating maps, charts, and other visualizations to communicate spatial data effectively to diverse audiences. Developing interactive web maps and dashboards to provide real-time access to geospatial information.
- GIS application development: Developing custom GIS applications and tools to streamline workflows and automate tasks. Integrating GIS with other systems, such as databases and web applications.
- Capacity building: Providing training and support to staff and partners on GIS software, tools, and methodologies. Developing training materials and resources to enhance GIS capacity within the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
- A Master’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field with at least three years of relevant experience, OR
A Bachelor’s degree in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Geography, Environmental Science, or a related field with at least five years of relevant experience.
A PhD in a relevant field is preferred.
Demonstrated expertise in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and related tools.
Experience in collecting, managing, analyzing, and visualizing spatial data.
Strong understanding of geospatial data formats, coordinate systems, and projections.
Proficiency in spatial analysis techniques, such as spatial statistics, geostatistics, and network analysis.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other languages is an asset.

This should also be reflected in your motivation statement, your resume and your sample works. This will help us place you in specific projects in specific countries.
